Going Gator

by Dennis Howlett on September 11, 2007

A long time ago (18 months), I stumbled across Jeff Nolan. At the time, he was leading the SAP Oracle Attack Group (that’s what I call them) and did a masterful job overcoming the FUD and BS that Oracle churns out as part of its competitive strategy.

Jeff and I soon became blog sparring partners but over time, we developed mutual respect and ultimately long distance friendship. Jeff was the instigator behind the crew that has subsequently developed into the Enterprise Irregulars.

In recent times, Jeff has helped me with my startup, providing invaluable advice and insights.

Jeff then had a stint as CEO at startup Teqlo but took this summer off to regroup, rethink and find a fresh role. Monday, he announced he’s taking on the role of VP Corporate Development at Newgator.

I’m delighted for both Jeff and Newsgator. He’s incredibly smart but also a person whose family values I share. It will be interesting to see how he gets on because part of his role reflects some of the things I have to do in the startup day job.

Hey Jeff – I used to be a NetNewsWire fan – today, I’m all Googley with Google Reader. Gimme a reason to switch back. ;)

  • Dennis,
Thanks, it means alot to me to have people I respect write such complimentary things.

RE Google Reader, they have done a fantastic job developing that service. The integrated search is a welcome addition. I also like some of the newer relevance services, like AideRSS and Newshub, even though they are not readers unto themselves but bolt ons for existing readers.

In the final analysis, the enterprise and media syndication businesses in Newsgator are really interesting to me, more so than the client apps. Have you checked out what we are doing with USAToday as an example?
