Meet Spanning Sync

by Dennis Howlett on June 3, 2007

I want to synchronise my calendar and contact information to my N95 but I don’t want to go a lot of fiddling about. As I use Gmail and Google Calendar it ought to be relatively simple. But bitter experience has also taught me that I still need a deskside version of these services. Since most of my stuff is done on the Mac, I can use Apple’s iCal and Address Book. So far so good. But then I still need a way of synching the calendars. Enter Spanning Sync. Brilliantly simple. It just works. $65 for the permanent license is a no-brainer. Now I can synch between the N95, the MacBook and the Internet cloud through bluetooth. Drop dead simple. No fiddling with wires, just a few mouse clicks.

  • Check: David Chartier of The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) writes, "Spanning Sync looks to be the holy grail of true, two-way calendar synchronization between Apple's iCal and Google Calendar."

Check also: MacUser says, "I really like Spanning Sync. It has an easy-to-use interface, works great, and does exactly what I need: bidirectional syncing between Google Calendar and iCal."

Probably me being divvy not describing my needs very well.
  • but Dennis you can synch iCal directly to Gcal - you don't need any extra apps to do that.
  • Spanning Synch allows me to synch GCal to iCal. iSynch handles the outbound to N95.
  • Dennis - I do exactly that with iSynch which comes free with the Mac.

Am I missing some extra functionality that Spanning Synch has?
