Office 2007 – message not understood

by Dennis Howlett on November 7, 2006

The Office 2007 ‘message’ isn’t getting across to a number of readers. Why am I not surprised? But then reading through the comments, it’s clear that Office 2007 has got at least some folk interested. They’re asking questions that Microsoft should address. IMO.

There is a ton of resource for those interested. But none of that gets away from the fact that you still need to upgrade – probably machine AND software, fork over cash and then learn about the product.

Does that sound like a good deal to you? Is there enough innovation to get you to invest?

  • Interesting Dennis - I went through the same thought processes as the two previous commenters.

My first reaction is, sure, I'll think about when they bring out the Mac version. Quickly followed by, oh no I won't, I'll just use an online office app for free! No download and universally available.

Hi Dennis, Steve Gilmor says 'Office is dead' I tend to agree. I will be writing more about the collaborative features of the new Office 2.0 shortly to build on this. Also notice I haven't linked to him either because he says links are dead also;)

No one I know is going to upgrade, infact if anything they are moving away from using Office where they can.

P.S. can you put (registration required) after your hyperlinks to accountingweb it drives me insane every time I cllick on those and get their sorry you can't play with us message!

    regards

  • Damn right I'm going to purchase Microsoft Office 2007 (for Mac) as soon as it is released!

Over the years I've upgraded to each new version as it's been released, sometimes buying upgrades for existing computers, and at other times, buying new version when I purchased new computers.

In every case my productivity as a knowledge worker, professionally and economically, has increased materially. In simple terms, I get more done in less time, easier, have way more fun and... I make more dough!
