Regular readers will know I am highly sceptical about vendor claims. The other day I received a press release from Applix. This is a company I usually like as they’ve done good things to reduce the cost of reporting for mid-sized businesses and have some very good case material to back their claims.
But…the release, entitled: Government Backed Employment Provider, Working Links, selects Applix TM1 for Complex Modeling and Forecasting contained the following statement:
“Working Links is partly owned by central Government, meaning that our standards of accountability and reporting are very high.” [Attributed to Working Links’ Financial Controller Paula Miller.]
I sent an email to the PR saying:
You realise the statement:
“Working Links is partly owned by central Government, meaning that our standards of accountability and reporting are very high….
is nonsense? (my emphasis added)
Silence and then another press release on a different topic. I say:
Did you get my response to the government win thingy the other day?
A near instant reply:
Yes I did, and was very true. But I didn’t think honesty was the best policy on that one J ha ha…
I’m sure the PR thinks this is amusing. Sorry – it’s not. I leave it to readers to weigh whether honesty is the best policy, who needs a good slap with a clue stick and whether Applix can be trusted in the future. We don’t trust government anyway and this is confirmation.
